Currently GPs can only provide a small Viagra prescription to men whose erectile dysfunction is likely to be linked to conditions such as diabetes or Parkinson’s disease.  However, the BMA has plans to stop men from purchasing fake and unlicensed generic Viagra over the internet and they see legitimate prescriptions as being the most effective way of combating this problem.

At the moment it is reckoned that only 10% of the 2.3 million men in the UK suffering from erectile dysfunction are currently being treated, with some being tempted by low prices on the internet for fake and unlicensed generic Viagra.

While the price of fake and unlicensed generic Viagra may seem like a bargain it is important to be aware that it is potentially dangerous.

The BMA is well aware that is not economically viable to make Viagra free to everyone on the NHS and is therefore looking at ways to stop patients from self-medicating and purchasing fakes.  One way to combat this is to issue kite marks to genuine clinics, such as UKMeds4U.com, who operate online.

All legitimate online prescribers would have nothing to fear from such a move and with a public education programme the fraudsters would soon be marginalised!
